20-Minute Guided Meditation for Focus and Love

A place to put your focus and give yourself some love

It’s common for my Reiki therapy clients to really want to be able to find a similar kind of relaxation and peace on their own. One thing I like to do with them is to have one-on-one guided breathing meditation sessions until they finally “get there,” to that place where they can finally really be still, quiet, and breathe.

Everyone gets to that place, wherever “there” is for them, in different ways, and guided breathing can be one of those ways. The key is to acknowledge when you get distracted and let those thoughts, images, ideas pass while gently inviting your mind back to a place where you can focus. That place to focus your mind might be on your breath itself (in this recording we will do some counting while breathing - counting while breathing is one place to focus), or it might be focused on the energy you are sensing and intentionally being with (in this recording we will also do some focusing on an energy ball in your hands), or it might be something else. With time and practice you can find many ways to get there, but in the beginning having a bit of a routine and ritualistic practice can help you get there with more ease.

I made this recording for a wonderful person who is, like most of us, on a powerful journey. She wants relaxation and peace to be a part of that journey and we know that breathing and meditation can help. So this is for her, but at the same time it’s for all of us who need a little extra reminder to give ourselves the gift of time to “decompress” a little and meander our way toward a place where we can just be.

Take your time with this. Find a place where you can close your eyes and try to be still for 20 minutes (I did this meditation on a quiet local lake, sitting on a paddleboard which is why you’ll hear beautiful sounds of water lapping and lake insects - but I don’t recommend this for you! Find a sturdy place to sit and relax where you won’t fall into the water please!). If 20 minutes is too much, try 10 minutes to begin with, and every single time you give yourself any sacred space to just be, thank yourself for the gift and show your gratitude before you rush back into whatever is next on your checklist. Come out of your 10 or 15 or 20 minutes slowly…

Some of you might listen to this before you go to sleep (a fabulous human told me recently she did this with another meditation I posted!), and if you fall fast asleep before it ends, good for you…sleep well.
