Dear Beautiful Humans,
This is what I know: You are a big, beautiful, bright being of love and light.
This is what I also know: Our bodies need to metabolize energies that do not serve us and are not for our greater, individual and collective, good.
Today may or may not be the time for you to listen and be with me and this 20-minute talk that began with my intention for this to be a “lecture” that my students would listen to during class today as we walk in the woods together. What emerged here instead, as I talked and walked in the woods, passing the occasional human doing the same, is something different.
I’m not sure what it is, but one thing is certain, I needed to hear and do this for myself. I talked and walked and moved my way to some new space, at least temporarily.
Everything is temporary, on the move, changing, shifting, flowing.
Yes, I know humans often have a difficult time accepting this.
If you do decide to take a listen, listen at your own pace, either sitting or lying down, or moving your body in whatever way is right for you. Tell yourself to find a good, slow, pattern of breathing in….and out…. as you do.
You can take nice, deep, slow inhales to fill the lowest part of your belly and your entire stomach, chest, throat, and all the way up through your head…
And then nice, slow, maybe even loud exhales to release and clear.
If you have listened to a meditation with me before you know that I tend to talk slowly.
Haha, yes, I am fully aware of this. My dear husband and daughter have much to say about this. And no, just because I’m aware of it doesn't mean I can control it when I find myself in the middle of contemplative and meditative talking.
So this is what I suggest: in those moments of silence between my words/thoughts/sounds, invite yourself to take a beautiful deep breath inward. Lean into the silence, the slowness, the pause, the impasse, and breathe.
Yes, we can breathe through the impasse.
Try that now.
Yes, just like that.
Just. Breathe.
Some of you, like me, might realize you have been holding your breath. So now, I invite us all to find that breath again and allow that life force energy to move through us - when you are ready.
If this 20 minutes of walking/talking/breathing/being becomes generative for even one of you, I will be forever grateful that I recorded it to share.
You, too, might create something to share with others in the days, weeks, and months to come. That might be a kind note to someone, a collaborative playlist, a gathering in a park, a sketch, a movie night, a craft, a group hug, a jam session, a dance party, a dish to share with neighbors, a walk, a talk, a space for silence. Even our smallest creations can bring new things into existence in the world.
Sending love, light, peace, and protection to each and every one of you beautiful, bright lights. Shine, shine, shine.
Yours,
Stephanie
